So what does it really take to set up shop online?

Let’s face it, if you’re new to this it has to be overwhelming to say the least to try to sort out all of the information that you’re presented with about setting up an online business and implementing a social media marketing strategy. It’s a very complex “machine” if you will. So are you intimidated? Don’t be! With a reach to every corner of the globe as well as your local surroundings you can sell any product or service and be profitable if you can master the mechanics of various platforms as they pertain to your business. Keep in mind that this includes marketing, branding and tracking with analytics. That’s a whole different monster which we’ll just leave in the closet for now.

What follows is an outline of the true essential pages that you’ll want and a starting point but only that. In learning these platforms many doors will be opened up to you involving further education that will take you into advertising and email marketing to mention only a couple of areas.

Unlike most of what you read and hear online, I’ll never try to make anything sound easy. If it were that easy everyone with an online business would be rolling!

Chances are that you have certain skills and knowledge already so if you put in the time you can be running efficiently and effectively in a matter of months with a clear direction and strategy. Take whatever time you need. You’ll do good to set up and coordinate all of your activities together involving these sites and there are excellent tools and resources available that will help you to do so.

Online Business Essential Web Sites

  • Company Page
  • Landing Page for each Product or Service
  • Company Blog
  • LinkedIn Profile
  • LinkedIn Company Page
  • LinkedIn Showcase Pages for each Product or Service
  • Face Book Company Page
  • Twitter Company Page
  • YouTube Company Page
  • Pinterest Page
  • Google G+ Business Page

These are considered your primary locations online. Everyone will expect you to have these online locations for your company and will look for you most often at one of these locations. These are the places to focus your efforts on getting the word out about your business.

Of course there are a vast amount of other social media platforms, blogs, etc. that may be well suited to your company also that you should investigate.

You need to study and master if you can the workings of each individual page and platform for which it is used. Even if you have the budget to outsource, as a business owner you need to have a firm fundamental understanding at the very least of every aspect of your business operations in order to make informed business decisions.  Without the budget? You’ll be pleasantly surprised at how much even one person can do and accomplish in today’s environment online! 😉
